Open Eye Figure Theatre
Annie and the Bang Bang, in collaboration with folks most intimate with their music—sound designer and engineer Sean Healey, and lighting-and-projection designer Michael Murnane—will craft an intimate, small-scale arena rock concert in the jewel box theater of Open Eye, to celebrate the release of their third album Still Up? (4:00 and 7:30. Doors open at 3:0 and 7:00, respectively) This is the second collaborative experiment between these artists, who will further explore music as meaningful spectacle. Fronted and founded by fight director, songwriter and guitarist Annie Enneking, Annie and the Bang Bang genre hop from dreamily potent folkpop to late-sixties rock to swampy psychedelic grooves. Annie writes visceral songs about every day obsessive heart break and relies on the artistry, invention, and dig-right-down-into-it-ness of the Bang Bang: the stacked chording and “just what the song wants” additional guitar of John Riedlinger, the lead-with-the-heart bass monster that is Kari Tweiten, and the heavy adventure and sharp, corner-turning drums of Mike Kittel.
