Paper Street Music Company Biography
The first four members of Paper Street Music Company each moved to Nashville between 2011 and 2014, but the latest line-up was finalized in November 2017. Their Americana-Rock sound is a synthesis of the inspirations brought by each member.
Guitarists Dave Schaefer and Tim Koly balance and counter each other with riffs that are at times aggressive and edgy, while rhythmic and rustic at others. Koly’s excellence on the harmonica blends with and builds off of the melodies of Greg Smith on the piano. Smith’s occasional use of organ fills out the sound with drummer Bobby Sweeney’s exceptionally versatile percussion, which can range from a simple Americana busk-beat to a heavy blues groove. This addition of Jordan Fredrick on tenor sax and Ben Shaw on bass in recent months has brought a new evolution to their sound and new music to add to the stage.
The guys have supported venues which feature local music such as the up-and-coming Venue 109 and The Local below B.B. King’s Blues Club. They have also played the more iconic stages in Nashville such as Springwater Supperclub and Lounge, Foobar (now Cobra), The End, The Country (now The Local) and Soulshine Pizza Company. The band recorded their EP at The Bomb Shelter recording studio where Alabama Shakes’ premier Gold Album was cut.
