Ace Livingston Biography

Ace Livingston’s musical artistry creates a rich, passionate, and emotional journey inspired by his life. His current CD, My Metamorphosis (2014), and debut album, The Ace Livingston Project (2007), complement his extensive and successful music career as a sideman and solo artist.

Ace Livingston grew up in Jamaica and was influenced by athletics and music. He actively pursued dreams of becoming a professional soccer player and fondly remembers the presence of music in his home. As a child he took piano lessons, but at 8 years old he picked up a bass and proved to be a natural. He was so enthralled with the instrument and determined to play that fellow congregants often propped him in a chair with his bass so that he would play for them. Ace played for a church singing group with his brothers and father, a pastor who played the saxophone. At 13 years old Ace moved to Connecticut with his family and enjoyed music as a pastime. His focus remained on fostering his soccer skills until an injury immediately ended his dreams for a professional soccer career.

While studying manufacturing and engineering in college, Ace prospered as a bass player by broadening his scope and performance style for a variety of music genres. His passion for music allowed him to cope with the abrupt end to his soccer dreams and became the driving force in defining his sense of purpose. Ace committed to pursuing a full-time career in music and co-founded a jazz band. After his breakthrough performance at a music festival in Mexico, hosted by Sean "Diddy" Combs, Ace was presented with opportunities to tour as a bassist for many A-list artists.

Ace Livingston's eclectic skills and versatility are especially outstanding during his live performances. He has gained national and inter-national notoriety for his musical and professional reputation. His dynamic musical resume includes tours and collaborations with Harry Connick, Jr., 98 Degrees, J. Lo, Pink, and Joe. Ace has also toured the world playing gospel with Youthful Praise, jazz with Alex Bugnon, Israel Houghton & New Breed, and pop & R&B with Bobby Brown, Rachelle Farrell, Chico DeBarge, Usher, and Jaheim.

Ace’s performance experiences include notable venues such as Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, The Apollo Theater, and Carnegie Hall. He has also performed in numerous jazz festivals including The Hartford Jazz Festival, A Smooth Jazz Affair, and The Impact Festival in Nashville, TN. Other noteworthy performances include Blue Plate Radio, The Blue Note, The Beacon Theatre, Yoshi’s of San Francisco, the Lyric Opera House, Blues Alley, and Much Music in Canada.

Ace Livingston's television appearances include The Stan Simpson Show, Better Connecticut, BET's 106 and Park with Usher, Bobby Jones' Gospel, and T.D. Jakes', The Potter’s House. He has appeared on ABC's “Good Morning America” with Jennifer Lopez, 98 Degrees, JJ Hairston and Youthful Praise, and on “The View” with Jessica Simpson. He has performed on NBC's “The Today Show” with Youthful Praise and “The Tonight Show” with Jessica Simpson, 98 Degrees, and Joe. Ace also performed on “Carson Daly” with Mario Winans, “The Howie Mandell Show” with Divine, “The Rosie O'Donnell Show”, the Blockbuster Music Awards, and MTV's “Total Request Live” with 98 Degrees and Pink.

In 2014 Ace was honored as a “Giant of the Community” by his hometown high school for his achievements and meaningful community service. He recently performed on Harry Connick Jr.’s recording, “Love Wins” written in honor of Newtown, CT school shooting victim, Ana Grace Marquez-Greene, which features Ana’s father, jazz saxophonist Jimmy Green. Ace also appears on the new live recording by gospel great, JJ Hairston.

Ace Livingston’s current full-length CD, My Metamorphosis, provides a colorful mix of buoyant funk, spirited jazz, and melodic sensuality drawing inspiration from renowned bassists Marcus Miller, John Patitucci, Melvin Davis, Jaco Pastorius, Wayman Tisdale, and gospel bassists Joel Smith, Mark Moore, and George Moore.

“The most important part of the live experience,” says Ace, “is feeling appreciation from the audience for what you share on stage with your fellow musicians. We always like to know that our music is making a difference in the lives of people."
