Katye Hamlin Official Biography

It took overcoming heart problems and injuries, playing college softball, and working full-time at a Dallas TV station before Katye Hamlin dropped everything for music.

Since starting this journey, Katye's played at the Houston Rodeo, San Antonio Rodeo, and Rodeo Austin, and shared the stage with Tracy Lawrence, John Conlee, Johnny Lee, Jack Ingram, Kyle Park, Bart Crow, The Bellamy Brothers, Shane Smith and more. Katye released her first EP in the spring if 2015 which was recorded at Station West (Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Allison Krause) with top notch producers and A-List musicians, as well as mastered by world-renowned, Andrew Mendelson.

Born and raised in Bryan/College Station, Texas, Katye began playing the piano and singing from the age of four.

As her love for music grew, so did her love for sports. As a teenager, Katye overcame two knee surgeries and earned a softball scholarship to pitch for Rutgers University. Career-ending injuries brought her back to Texas to finish her education in Austin. One morning of her senior year, Katye blacked-out and woke up to deep cuts on her face and a broken nose which was a result from a rare heart condition. Two nose surgeries later, and unable to sing for over twelve weeks, Katye's yearning to sing and perform again was too strong to ignore

After graduation, Katye worked for a couple TV stations: Fox 7 Austin and Dallas CW33. While in Dallas, she learned to play the guitar, which propelled her songwriting. After what she calls her “quarter-life” crisis, Katye left her great job to pursue music full-time.

While at the CW, Katye met incredible people who believe in her and connected her with industry leaders. She’s performed for the CMT Talent Team at the request of CMT President and Vice President, Brian Philips and Leslie Fram. In response to Katye’s performance, Ms. Fram said, “I was impressed by your voice and overall confidence.” She was confident Katye could survive the infamous radio boot-camp, and they both believe she has the endurance and drive that it takes to make it.

While this Texas girls’ home is in country, Katye’s diverse taste in genres inspired her sound and songwriting, creating a unique, bluesy texture and tone. Influences include Bonnie Raitt, Faith Hill to Patsy Cline.

2015 was a big year for Katye: releasing her self-titled EP and touring the United States while promoting her new single “Love Is Like Rain”. “Love Is Like Rain” hit Top 100 on Music Row and stayed there multiple weeks through the life of the single as well as received attention in Europe and Japan. Katye has been busy honing her writing skills and creating a record she is extremely proud of. She is anxious to cut her next single and sophomore album "Southern Ground" in Nashville this fall and release it exclusively to Texas/Red Dirt radio after the new year.
