About this concert
Quarter To Africa ist ein multikulturelles Roots-Ensemble, das elektrische Oud-Grooves, Saxophon, Trompete, E-Gitarre, Bass, Schlagzeug, Percussion, Synthesizer und Gesang kombiniert. Ihre Musik schafft eine erhebende Collage, die traditionelle arabische "Makam" -Skalen mit afrikanischen Rhythmen, Jazz und Funk verbindet. Das Konzept wurde von Yakir Sasson & Elyasaf Bashari erdacht, beide erfahrene Musiker, die sich in Jaffa trafen, um eine gemeinsame Musiksprache und eine ähnliche Lebenseinstellung zu entdecken. Die Musik verkörpert die kulturellen Aspekte und Hintergründe der Musiker. Beide sind in Heimen aufgewachsen, die von den Traditionen und dem Erbe Jemens, Persiens und des Irak beeinflusst sind. Sie arbeiteten mit Top-Künstlern wie Ester Rada, Reef Cohen, Yossi Fine und Avishai Cohen zusammen. Das Ergebnis ist eine einzigartige Mischung aus Osten trifft Westen, und eine musikalische Performance, die sowohl musikalisch als auch visuell einzigartig ist. Das ganze macht es fast unmöglich sich nicht dem Klang ihrer Musik hinzugeben und mit zu tanzen. Das Album "The Layback" erschien Mitte Februar 2017 und bekommt weltweit erstaunliche Kritiken.

Quarter To Africa (Q2A) is an uplifting Ethno-funk ensemble,
fusing traditional Arabic “Makam" scales with African rhythms, jazz and funk.
The result is a unique mixture of East meet West,
and a musical performance that is all about the GroOve & the Move - and no one can stand still.
In the past few years, Quarter to Africa has performed across the world spreading their message while headlining several festivals and major events, including the RedSea Jazz festival, Jarasum fest (korea), Magic live fest (japan) Israel film festival, the international Jazz festival, Jerusalem Festival and more.
Collaborating with many top artists as Ester Rada, Reef Cohen, Yossi Fine,
and the great Avishai Cohen (recorded and participated as his rhythm section band for his latest "1970" project and world tour).
Started as a duo in 2014, Q2A has slowly grown into a versatile ensemble of top musicians and performers.
The band released its long awaited debut E.P in 2016 , and full album “The Layback” at February 2017, which is frequently played in top radio stations and which accordingly has gained acclaim within the local and international music industry, and constantly played at major radio stations and tv shows around the globe.
Into the creative process, Q2A weaves a philosophy built on three main principles: LOVE, UNITY & FRIENDSHIP. The result is a unique sound, which sets a fertile ground for fluid movement between composition and improvisation, upbeat and downtempo, complicated and simple.
