Storm The Palace Biography

Storm The Palace is a Port Hope based party band playing your favourite New Wave, Rock and Pop hits of the 1980’s. Adam Weatherup (Guitar), Christian McFadden (Bass, Vocals, Programming), and Tim Fleming (Drums) bring to life beloved songs from the 80’s overlooked by most of the retrospective bands out there today.
“We are filling a void, playing songs that have been largely ignored by bands that I’ve seen at local festivals, parties, or bars” says Christian. “I don’t think they know how to approach these songs, or else they don’t think that there is an audience that wants to hear them. Our experience playing them for our rapidly expanding audience over the last year strongly suggests they are wrong”.
Storm The Palace tackle a lot of songs that were very dependent on synthesizers; songs that weren’t necessarily #1 hits, but can in no way be referred to as obscure or underground tracks. Multi-platinum selling artists like Depeche Mode, New Order, The Cure, Simple Minds, INXS, Duran Duran…the groups that have transcended their genre to become the most enduring acts of their time are all well represented in a Storm The Palace set list. If your musical tastes sit a little more centerfield, you will of course get a healthy dose of the heavyweights throughout the performance as well…Prince, Michael Jackson, David Bowie to name a few.
“Pretty much anyone who was into music during the Reagan/Thatcher/Mulroney era or who has a subsequently developed a penchant for 80’s music will recognize most of our set” continues McFadden.
“I think people have been pleasantly surprised at our shows because we are doing the fun, upbeat songs that they love that they have NEVER heard a cover band perform for them before. And we are approaching them with an attention to detail that I can definitely say is unique to Storm The Palace”. What does that mean, exactly?
“In addition to 3 guys bashing it out on guitar, drums and bass, we incorporate synths, sequences, samples and loops on most of our set which really kicks things up a notch and is the icing on the cake.” McFadden has put in countless hours recreating from scratch the signature synth sounds from these songs; the ones that make them recognizable within seconds of hearing the song, so that they can be triggered live. “It brings an authenticity to our performances of these songs that really excite the audience”, he says. “It’s what sets us apart from the rest.”
But don’t let all this talk of synths scare you.
“A lot of thought has gone into creating a very balanced set. Just when you need it, we hit you with a Springsteen, Cheap Trick, or Mötley Crüe, so keep your air guitars handy.”
2016 saw Storm The Palace make the most of some incredible and well earned opportunities. From closing out the 37th Annual Dora Awards at Harbourfront Centre, to a massive corporate performance at The Airport Sheridan, and private parties encircling the GTA, 2016 was exactly what the band had hoped to achieve…it was all about expansion. 2017/18 saw more high profile shows, including during the RBC CUP FINALS and STEAM WHISTLE BREWERIES and further expansion into Ontario. Storm The Palace want to take you on a trip back. Dance all night, dance if you want to, dance in the dark, dance into the fire… Whichever was YOUR dance back in the day, be prepared to dance it once again.
