Dinny Keg Biography

During the mid 70’s as a teenager, Dinny Keague found his love for music when he over heard his mother, Vera Keague singing along to a Roy Orbison song on the radio and began to hum along with her. Although he did not know the words to the song he discovered his vocal chords and instantly fell in love with his mothers beautiful voice and the music she loved.
From this moment onwards Dinny pursued a career in music that has taken him to several highs which include recording songs with his first band Boomshanka for the Janice Long show on BBC Radio 1 in the UK to the Angus McNally show, Borderline on RTE Television in the early 1980’s.
During this period Dinny and Boomshanka were influenced by up and coming bands such as U2, Simple Minds, Phil Lynott and the 80’s music scene in general. Dinny also discovered his talent for many different instruments during this period such as the drums, acoustic guitar and bass, in which he excelled as a musician.
Unfortunately, during the late 80’s while the Irish economy was at its lowest downturn in many years Dinny immigrated to the US to pursue a better life for his family.
As soon as he arrived in the US, in 1988 he auditioned for many bands that were instantly attracted to his raw talent. In the early 1990’s he began playing with the band The Racket in several of the well know clubs, The Lime Light, China Club, CBGB’s and the Bitter End.
After revolving band names and a successful period during the 90’s, Dinny formed the KFM Band in 2000 with fellow musicians, Glen Munoz and Peter Farrell and recorded their first full-length album entitled Coming Clean, and in 2004 recorded a 3 song E.P. entitled Percolated, at the same time playing in many of the clubs in an around New York City.
Although still collaborating with KFM Band, Dinny has also formed a close musical relationship with other artists and most recently in 2006 formed the Dinny Keg Band, which consists of several of his closest friends, Tom McPhillips, Paul O’Hara and John O’Hara.
Friends with a shared love of music, the band have been playing locally for the past several years and have recorded songs in some of the world’s most historically significant music studios.
In May 2008, The Dinny Keague Band travelled to Memphis, TN (via Nashville) to lay down tracks at Sun Studio. In the exact same space that music luminaries such as Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbinson, etc. recorded the songs that would change a generation (and those that followed) the band recorded several songs that successfully captured what those in the industry refer to as the “Sun Sound”. The band’s version of “Raglan Road” became a regular feature on Fordham University’s radio station (WFUV 90.7 FM). To have walked in the footsteps of these legends (even using some of the gear used by them such as Jerry Lee’s cigar scorched piano) was truly an honor and a privilege and inspired the boys to replicate the experience.
In May 2010, The Dinny Keague Band travelled to Los Angeles, CA. to record several songs at the famous Sunset Sound Studios. Within the confines of Studio #2 (the very room where “Stairway to Heaven” was recorded) the boys recorded several songs, some of which also went on to receive airplay on WFUV. Although the Sun to Sunset experience was now complete, the band’s thirst for musical adventure was not entirely quenched.
Having recorded where rock was born and baptized, it was decided to go where it received its First Holy Communion. Plans were quickly underway for a session at Abbey Road Studios in London. A member of the band toured the premises in February 2011, and upon reporting back to the others, it was decided to book Studio #3 where the classic “Dark Side of the Moon” was recorded. The session will take place in May 2012.
During the last 35 years of musical experiences and influences, Dinny has always wrote his own lyrics and composed his own music and has now reached a point in his career where theses experiences have inspired him to pursue a solo career in which he has found his inner musical soul.
While recording with the engineering expertise of Glen Munoz of the KFM Band, Dinny is currently working on composing a full-length album of music from his own heart and soul. Although not completely finished the content of this album, grabs your spine and shakes the nerves of your back with that spine tingling feeling. (Watch this space)
