Stillhouse Biography
Progressive acoustic music at its finest, Stillhouse are a mandolin, guitar, double bass and vocal trio ensemble, presenting beautifully crafted original songs and meticulously arranged instrumental material with roots in bluegrass, jazz and folk. Jonny Sellers (guitar, vocals) and Polly Bolton (mandolin, vocals) have been playing together on and off for almost 10 years, although they only recently came together again for this collaboration after 3 years apart spent working on individual projects. Matt Mefford (double bass) has roots in his hometown of Austin, Texas and spent the years before his move to the UK touring the States with bluegrass/jazz/folk quartet MilkDrive. Jonny and Polly were instantly drawn to Matt’s playing, and connected through the regional music scene. After a jam together on a rainy Monday afternoon at the beginning of February, the three of them began collaborating to form what is now Stillhouse. Virtuosic, moving and exhilarating, the trio creates a new collective sound which draws from each member’s unique musical background of bluegrass, folk, jazz, pop and acoustic music. The result is a captivating and complex set characterised by melodically astonishing original songs alongside soaring mandolin, guitar and bass-led instrumental pieces with roots in bluegrass, old time and jazz melodies. "Wonderful musicianship and superbly well-arranged material; Stillhouse completely captivate their audience from the first note they play. This trio is one to watch." Leila Cooper, Moonbeams Festival Director "They’re all such amazing players. It’s a rare thing these days, but they do it with finesse and style and it’s never showboaty, just pure class." Chris Helme, formerly The Seahorses. Progressive acoustic music at its finest.
