Daniel Burgess Biography

New York City based artist Daniel Burgess is experienced in every stage of music production. He wrote, performed, recorded and mixed his debut album Stay the Light, serves as a recording engineer and producer for the CU Records studio, is a freelance engineer, and produces for various artists. He works as a mix and mastering engineer, with credits including Sarah Kinsley’s 2019 single “Open Your Eyes”. He sings and performs regularly on guitar and piano. His singles “Set Apart from You” and “Your Answer” were released in 2019. An EP is currently in production.

In addition to indie rock, he has composed jazz charts for combos and big bands as well as orchestral arrangements of his original songs, bringing all of these projects to the stage. He has opened for or performed with many artists and bands, including Donny McCaslin, Big Mean Sound Machine, Bridget Kearney, Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, and Gabe Medd. He co-founded Iowa City groups NonProphet and Slackmaster Smooth, performing at both local and nationally prominent venues such as Gabe's Oasis, the Mill, and the Iowa Arts Festival's main stage. One of his productions - an original track called Out of Time - is on regular rotation at renowned jazz station 88.3 KCCK.

A musician since age four, Daniel Burgess made his mark with classical piano, violin, and opera before switching to rock and jazz fusion. First picking up the guitar at thirteen, he was performing in a local big band on the Iowa City Jazz Festival's main stage two years later.
