About this concert
Le New Morning présente pour la 1ère fois en France, "Resolution 88", formidable formation jazz funk venue d'Angleterre, qui se produira dans la salle mythique parisienne mercredi 28 février 2018. Ils interpréteront en exclusivité l'intégralité de l'album légendaire et précurseur "Headhunters" datant de 1973, suivi du répertoire original issu de leur nouvel album "Afterglow". Après 5 années seulement d'existence, la toute jeune "Resolution 88" s'est déjà taillée une impressionnante et palpitante réputation sur la scène jazz britannique, notamment en arpentant sans relâche les clubs et les scènes. Ses quatre jeunes membres (Tom O'Grady, Ric Elsworth, Tiago Coimbra et Alex Hitchcock) font typiquement partie de cette nouvelle génération d'enfants terribles anglais qui renouvellent nécessairement le jazz. A l'instar de Vels Trio, Yussef Dayes ou Kamaal Williams, Resolution 88 interpelle par sa capacité jubilatoire à maitriser les codes inventés par les maîtres du genre, mais aussi à s'en détourner avec inventivité sans tressaillir. Prenant source dans le jazz funk originel de Herbie Hancock (sous l'ère Headhunters), la formule Resolution 88 contient une haute dose de broken beat et de dérivés acid jazz. Oscillant avec un naturel déconcertant entre compositions au cordeau, technicité bluffante, mélodies entêtantes et grooves fondamentaux, c'est une synthèse passionnelle entre deux époques espacées de 40 ans qui s'opère. Chacune moderne et libre en son temps, elles fusionnent et s'enrichissent l'une l'autre à nos oreilles et sous nos yeux grâce aux talents soupçonnés de Resolution 88. Et l'on comprend mieux pourquoi ce quartet compte parmi ses soutiens et collaborations aussi bien Roy Ayers, The Blackbyrds, Larry Mizell, qu'Incognito, Simon Grey ou Kaidi Thatam. Resolution 88 are awesome - great, finally sound, big energy and super talented all round!
I would recommend people seeing them whenever they gig about which, in my opinion, is never often enough.
I would say the venue is slightly annoying in that it is difficult to get full views of the stage area due to a big pillar in the middle, which is a bit frustrating.
