eight53 Biography
In 2013 EIGHT53 found themselves at a crossroad after guitarist Roman Bilko and
bassist Steve Giedosh left the band to pursue other projects and finish grad school. Initially, the concept of playing alternative rock without guitar was daunting, but they decided to try moving forward as a two piece. Playing a set at the Hawthorne Theatre solidified their decision keep going on with just piano and drums.
EIGHT53’s new album Corvus machina strikes the perfect balance between alternative rock and haunting 80’s pop with emotional songs like “And It Gets Dark So Early,” a cover of “Strange Fruit” by Billie Holiday and energetic rock songs like “Freedom” and “Unthankful.” Special guests includes Mark White of Spin Doctors on “Father” and Skip vonKuske of Portland Cello Project on “Epic”.
“We were humbled to have Mark come in for Father.” say Benzo. “He came in at the beginning of the recording process last October and set the standard for the entire record.”
