Courtlyn James Biography

Born in Houston Texas, Courtlyn James was raised north of Houston in the small town of Dobbin. He spent many days running up and down the dirt road visiting his mamaw and pawpaw who lived on the adjacent property. At that early age he got to experience what many young Texas country boys experience, country music, country animals, hunting and fishing and family. He got his first guitar at age 7. Soon after his parents James and Misty Bills decided to move him and his sister Chelsea to Austin, the music capitol of Texas. CJ, which he goes by from his close friends, would soon get to play some of the big venues in Austin as such as Stubbs and Red 7 with The School of Rock and a few local bands. He has gotten to work with some of the best in the business as such as vocal coach Jason McMasters from the 80s band Dangerous Toys, guitar coach Rick Carney from Jesus Christ Superfly, keyboard and piano coach George Mack from The Illusionist and vocal instructor Doctor Barry Williams. He has also worked with performers as such as Debbie Gibson, guitarist Bryan Austin, improv great Wayne Brady and Lorenzo Lamas. He was bassist and back up vocalist for the local My Band Rocks Fox 2012 runnerup Vintage Daisies and played Armadillo Fest with the Johnny Cash cover band A Lil Cash. In 2013 he has played lead guitar for Drown The Coward and is the lead singer for the Victoria rock band 24-7. CJ has now gone back to his roots and is ready to take the world with his own take on alternative modern rock! Courtlyn James is reincarnated 70's rock soul. Modern sounds with 70's metal riffs that will still make the kids dance.
