Mirrorball Biography
Brought together by Los Angeles, their shared love for 90’s indie pop and one fateful Uber ride, California dream-pop duo Mirrorball have forged a sound that’s equal parts dreamy and tuneful.
With both artists' musical DNA deeply rooted in a DIY-ethos, the act of making music is one that celebrates the happy accidents and embraces instinct. The freedom in their process has gone on to define their sound, one which meanders between dream pop, indie, and California sound.
Mirrorball, whose alias is composed of songwriting duo Alexandra Johnstone and Scott Watson have curated a distinctive quality that exists somewhere between Fleetwood Mac’s best b-sides and Kate Bush at her most celestial. Tinges of neo-psychedelia, soft rock, and shoegaze are also echoed throughout their discography, with Johnstone’s expressive vocals riding the swells of synths and pinpricks of guitar.
Having played hundreds of shows in and around LA in various bands, their paths never crossed until the pair met in an Uber ride through Johnstone’s hometown of Sierra Madre.
After releasing their debut dream pop concoctions, ‘This Time’ and ‘Natural World’ on Dangerbird Records in 2019, their subsequent touring schedule was majorly disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With this came a silver lining, Mirrorball were blessed with time to further cement and fine tune their sound. This has now led to the duo working closely with Chris Coady(Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Beach House), who mentored the pair and produced their forthcoming singles that are set to release in 2023.
