Azul Zapata Biography
“Making music and being part of my music community saves me every single day.” The strength of singer/songwriter AZUL is her ability to find connection with, and through, music. The loss of connection during the pandemic motivated AZUL to connect, and to share her first EP, “The View From Here” in 2021. Many listeners told her that her first single, “Magic” gave them hope that 2021 would be miles better than 2020. Her soon-to-be-shared songs give *AZUL* hope that 2023 will be better than 2022.
AZUL’s sound is as multicultural as her background. Her music is enriched by her Argentinian roots, travel, and relationships, while influenced by jazz, broadway, soul, gospel, blues, disco, Latin folk and Latin rock. She is emotional, empathetic, and empowered. She is driven to amplify opportunities for femme/queer/poc individuals in her band and on stage.
AZUL sings (in Spanish, English, and French), dances, and plays trumpet. She’s as serious as she is silly, and she wants *you* to connect with that energy while she’s on stage. Her sound (and heart) is made whole by talented bandmates Bethany McKee (keys) and TJ Richardson (bass, percussion).
When mental health, trust, government, and her relationships fail, AZUL’s music speaks; loudly. The authentic aspiration that overcomes her life is for you to listen; (and for her to be heard).
