Jérémy Dumont Biography
Jérémy Dumont, born in 1987, started playing the violin at the age of 5. After becoming a chorister at the RTBF Maîtrise, he discovered the piano at the age of 12 with the concert pianist Karin Lechner. He completed his classical piano studies at the Arthur Grumiaux Conservatory in Charleroi, while also taking jazz improvisation lessons with Thomas De Prins. He continued his studies at the Jazz Studio in Antwerp, participating in various workshops in Belgium and abroad, along with private lessons in classical and jazz piano. He graduated with distinction from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 2013, while giving numerous concerts in Belgium, France, and Luxembourg.
Jérémy explores different styles derived from jazz and forms several groups, including The Unexpected 4, Jérémy Dumont Trio, Solid Steps Quintet, and Brussels Pop Masters. He has won several awards and distinctions, including the 1st prize for Young Talent at the Dinant Jazz Nights 2010, the 1st prize for Young Formations at the Festival de Comblain-la-Tour 2012, and he was a finalist in the Boris Vian International Piano Competition in France in November 2012.
In 2015, he released his first album "Resurrection" as a trio, followed by a tour in Belgium and France, as well as performances at festivals. In 2017, he became a piano professor at the Jazz Studio in Antwerp. In 2017, he met the American saxophonist Godwin Louis, leading to the recording of his second album as a quintet, "Eretz," in 2018. He also formed the quintet "The New-York Project," which toured in Brussels in December 2018 and January 2019.
Meanwhile, Jérémy continues to explore various musical genres, from groove to electro-funk, while remaining true to jazz. In 2022, he revisits his first album "Resurrection" by strengthening the lineup with a string quartet.
After international tours in 2018, 2019, and 2022, as well as the recording of their first CD "Eretz," the Jérémy Dumont Quintet feat. Godwin Louis is back on the road in 2024, with Jean-Paul Estiévenart, Géraud Portal, and Harvel Nakundi. They will present a new program consisting of both known and unpublished pieces, promising to captivate the audience with Jérémy's powerful and eclectic style, inspired by great contemporary musicians.
