The Orphan The Poet Biography
Following in the footsteps of fellow Columbus natives Twenty One Pilots, David Eselgroth (vocals) and Jake Floyd (bass) were raised on a diet of local garage bands and a soundtrack from alt heavyweights Weezer and Green Day. With no go-to local music venue at the time, weekends were spent jamming with like-minded musicians and attending guerilla DIY shows. As personal musical tastes evolved, discovering records from the likes of Phoebe Bridgers and The Driver Era, David and Jake were intent on creating their own imprint of ear grabbing alt-rock, culminating in the formation of The Orphan The Poet.
2022 saw their US breakthrough, with the release of single ‘Feelin’ Good (Could Be Better)’, co-written and co-produced by close-collaborator, Matt Squire (Ariana Grande, Panic! at the Disco, Demi Lovato). They saw a wealth of playlist support from Apple Music and Spotify, and subsequently featured on FOX Sports during US college football season. The band’s next single ‘Carolina Reaper’ followed later in 2022, with support from SiriusXM’s Alt Nation.
To date, The Orphan The Poet have rapidly gained fans all over the US by taking their electric shows to stages at Firefly Music Festival, Riotfest, and Summerfest, garnering praise from SiriusXM’s Alt Nation, KROQ, and BBC Radio 1 along the way.
