The Night School

The Night School is a rock band from Swansea that performs in both English and Welsh. They are known for their rock anthems and their passion for the Welsh language and culture. They released their first EP, "Something to Believe In," in 2022, before beginning to explore their Welsh songwriting capabilities. Following their live performance on S4C's Cân i Gymru with their single "Melys," their first album "Dianc" came out in 2023, combining their distinctive rock sound and storytelling abilities. Their new EP Llond Bol, which was supported by the BBC Horizons fund, sees them exploring a wider range of rock styles, from the short and catchy Rhiannon, the heavier seafaring epic Codi’r Faner (Barti Ddu), to the piano-driven rock ballad of Byd ar Dân. Throughout the album their frustration on different scales is a common thread, from the local frustrations of personal relationships, to the current state of Wales and the wider society of the world, but one thing they haven’t had a “Llond Bol” of is making contemporary rock music in Cymraeg.

Band roc o Abertawe yw The Night School sy’n perfformio yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg. Maent yn adnabyddus am eu hanthemau roc a’u hangerdd dros yr iaith Gymraeg a’i diwylliant. Rhyddhawyd eu EP cyntaf, "Something to Believe In," yn 2022, cyn dechrau archwilio eu gallu i gyfansoddi caneuon Cymraeg. Yn dilyn eu perfformiad byw ar Gân i Gymru gyda'u sengl "Melys," daeth eu halbwm cyntaf "Dianc" allan yn 2023, gan gyfuno eu sain roc nodedig a'u awydd i adrodd straeon. Mae eu EP newydd Llond Bol, a gefnogwyd gan gronfa Gorwelion y BBC, yn eu gweld yn archwilio ystod ehangach o arddulliau roc, o'r byr a bachog Rhiannon, yr epig morwrol trymach Codi'r Faner (Barti Ddu), i'r baled roc piano Byd ar Dân. Trwy gydol yr albwm mae eu rhwystredigaeth ar wahanol raddfeydd yn llinyn cyffredin, o rwystredigaethau lleol perthnasau personol, i gyflwr presennol Cymru a chymdeithas ehangach y byd, ond un peth nad ydyn nhw wedi cael “Llond Bol” ohono yw greu cerddoriaeth roc gyfoes yn y Gymraeg.
