Singing River Biography

Mikey James, whose long, winding career as a maverick outsider has included turns in Longwave, The Mercies, Admirers, his pseudonymous projects Mikey Jukebox and Hawker M. James, and, now the roots based folk-rock of Singing River.

James began entertaining the idea of throwing in the towel as far as releasing his own music and focusing on producing other acts, but a former bandmate reconnected James with another former bandmate, Anthony Kuhn, and Singing River was born. With Kuhn’s unique slide work, the duo has rediscovered the joy of making music for music’s sake. The result is what James likes to call “northern folk,” referencing his admiration for Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, and The Band.

"Take a nice dose of Tom Petty style folk rock and add in some modern folk stylings, you’ll come out with a sound that’s rewarding like Singing River’s “Everyday Love.” -Ear to the Ground

“…describes a world in which simple pleasures are cherished, yet doesn’t narrate a complete utopia.“ - American Songwriter

"...delivers a wonderfully bright and soaring slice of folk-pop gold” - Mystic Sons

“…with a built-in sense of comfort…you can hear the warmth in the delivery…for the style they are calling “Northern Folk” with ties that go back to the early 20th century.” - Rock and Roll Globe
