Agrémentées de la bande originale que l’Orchestre de Cannes fera revivre à la veille des fêtes de fin d’année.Offrez-vous une soirée en famille et (re)plongez-vous dans l’univers tragi-comique de cet immense chef d’œuvre du cinéma muet.Le ton du film est établi par le premier carton : « Un film avec un sourire… et peut être aussi, une larme », tandis qu’un autre annonce l’histoire « La femme dont le péché est d’être mère ».Une femme miséreuse abandonne son nourrisson dans une voiture luxueuse demandant à la personne qui le trouvera de prendre soin de cet enfant. Mais l’auto est volée par deux voyous qui s’en séparent quelques rues plus loin. Charlot, un pauvre vitrier passant par là, découvre le bébé, tente de se débarrasser de cette nouvelle responsabilité non désirée, mais s’attache à lui. Il n’est pas au bout de ses peines…En 1971, soit 50 ans après la sortie du film, Charlie Chaplin conçoit la partition du Kid qui couvre l’entière durée du film. Chaplin s’associe à des compositeurs pour l’orchestration de ses idées mélodiques. On y croise des clins d’œil au jazz, mais aussi des touches de valse et des incursions dans le cabaret, autant d’ambiances différentes pour coller aux émotions dégagées par les images. Charlie Chaplin Biography
Two artists share this name:
1) The original, the well-known British comedian who also composed the scores for his movies.
2) Charlie Chaplin (born Richard Bennett is a Jamaican dancehall and ragga deejay and singer. It was common for Jamaican deejays of the era to name themselves after film stars or characters. Bennett, however, had been nicknamed after the comedian since his youth. His career began in 1980 when he began working with U-Roy's Stur-Gav Hi-Fi collective. He became extremely popular throughout Jamaica, memorable for his focus on cultural and social themes instead of the "slack" (rough, violent) lyrics that were popular at the time. His popularity as a live performer prompted Roy Cousins to produce some recording sessions with the young DJ. Chaplin's debut album was the Cousins-produced Presenting Charlie Chaplin in 1982, with several albums following for the producer over the next 3 years.
The contrast between Chaplin's 'culture' lyrics and the slackness of the other major deejays of the day led to the 1984 'clash' album with Yellowman Slackness Vs Pure Culture.
Que Dem (1985), produced by George Phang was popular, and was one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the time. His popularity declined sharply in the late 1980s and 1990s, though he continued recording, working with Bunny Roots, Josey Wales, Sly & Robbie, Henry "Junjo" Lawes, Roots Radics and Doctor Dread.
