Man or Astro-man? Biography

Man or Astro-man? was an eclectic and influential surf rock band that started in the 1990s with the members Star Crunch (Brian Causey) on lead guitar, Coco the Electronic Monkey Wizard (Robert DelBueno) on bass and electronics, Birdstuff (Brian Teasley) on drums, and other rhythm guitarists who toured with MoAM.

MoAM started out with a straightforward surf rock sound with their debut full length "Is It...Man or Astro-Man?" (which is almost a complete departure from what their later albums sound like). They became known, almost exaggeratedly, for their cover of the Mystery Science Theater Theme song ("Mystery Science Theater 3000 Love Theme") on the album "Destroy all Astromen!".
Star Crunch Left the band after their album "Made From Technetium" to pursue a record company. Made From Technetium shows the band's aptitude for their most recent sound - but that change was staggeringly apparent in their next album, "EEVIAC: Operational Index and Reference Guide, Including Other Modern Computational Devices", with which most of their fans started to abandon them with a desire for the straightforward surf-rock guitar styling of Star Crunch. The new guitarists, Trace Reading (Erich Hubner) on lead guitar, and Blazar the Probe Handler (Richie Edelson) on rhythm guitar, brought a new Moog synthesizer-oriented sound that that seemingly wasn't emulating any other influencing band and hasn't been emulated by any band proceeding from MoAM. The band continued to release albums with this unique sound, with some undulation. After the band's tour for their final album, "A Spectrum of Infinite Scale" in 2001, the band started an extensive hiatus. In 2006 they performed in Touch n Go fest.
