Teodor Ilincai Biography

Tenor Teodor Ilincai spent his childhood in Malini, a mountain village from Romania. He studies oboe in primary school at the Arts Highschool in Suceava. After he graduated the theoretical high school “Constantin Brancoveanu” in Bucharest in 2001 (Philology section), his passion for music determined him to take Conservator’s courses (Bucharest University of Music), specializing in Byzantine Music, which he graduated in 2006. Here, he had the opportunity to discover classical music and to improve his vocals as a member of a choir and then as a vocalist. He studied with teachers like the soprano Georgeta Stoleriu and he also participated in George Crasnaru’s masterclass. Also, while in college, he was hired by the Bucharest National Opera’s choir, from which he also receives small parts. Beginning with 2006, he becomes a singer with the Bucharest National Opera, where he debuts in „Puss in Boots” by Cornel Trailescu, as Ionica. That same year, he starts perfecting his skills under Corneliu Fanateanu’s guidance and obtains a scholarship offered by CEE Musiktheater in Vienna, which lengthened year by year due to his musical and vocal abilities. As an employee at Bucharest National Opera, he was able to participate at soprano Leontina Ciobanu-Vaduva’s masterclass in 2007 and in the one held up by mezzosoprano Viorica Cortez in 2008, as well as the one held by baritone Eduard Tumagian. The quality and musicality of his voice have helped him obtain the first place in the Tenor’s competition in Szczecin – Poland (2008) and the second place at the “Francisco Viñas” international canto competition in Barcelona (2010). In 2008, he was invited by the “Banatul” Philharmonics in Timisoara for G. Rossini’s Stabat Mater, an occasion that marked the tenor’s debut in a vocal-symphonic piece. In the same year he also appears for the first time on the stage of the Romanian Athene Bucharest in A. Dvorak’s Requiem and make his debut with the tenor’s part in C.Orff’s Carmina Burana at Bucharest National Opera House and also at Romanian Radio Society. His international debut, which was a veritable success, took place in January 2009 on the scene of the Hamburg Opera where he interpreted the role of MacDuff in G. Verdi’s Macbeth. In March of the same year, he made his debut at Vienna’s State Opera where he performed the part of Ismaele from the opera Nabucco also by G. Verdi. This was followed by his debut in Pucinni’s La Bohème on the scenes of opera houses in Timisoara, Bucharest and Hanover. In December of the same year he makes his debut at Royal Opera House in London with La Bohème, here he obtains the appreciation of the public and the critics. And because 2009 had to be complete, he was rewarded with two prizes, Soloist of the year offered by VIP Gala Awards and Ludovic Spiess Prize awarded by Romanian Music Forum. In 2010 he was honoured with In memoriam Iosif Sava price for 2009. Between 2010-2013 he will perform in a variety of places such as: Hamburg, Sevilla, Berlin, Toulouse, Barcelona( La Bohème, Madama Butterfly – G. Puccini, MacBeth , La Traviata – G. Verdi), Monte Carlo (Evgheni Oneghin – P.I.Tchaikovsky), Vienna (Nabucco – G. Verdi), Lausanne, Marseille, Santiago de Chile (Roméo et Juliette – Ch.
