Über Unter Null
The sole creation of Erica Dunham, material began to be written under the moniker of “Unter Null” in the year 1998. After years of classical piano training, as well as cello and guitar, the foray into electronic music began.
Unter Null started off as a powernoise project highly influenced by other artists back in the day such as Noisex, Converter, P.A.L., and a lot of the Ant-Zen/Hands roster. The first demo was released sometime in 2000 as a self-titled CD.
Later, after talks with Leech of NTT/Annihilvs Records, a web-only release was released in 2002 called “NEOCIDE”. This is still available online: www.annihilvs.org/unter-null
Around this period, Unter Null went back to her roots of classical music, melding noise and melody. This brought about the new breed of Unter Null. No more rhythmic noise, and the new tracks produced were unconsciously more dance-floor friendly, with “SICK FUCK” becoming especially popular in clubs. At the same time, Unter Null was signed onto ALFA MATRIX.
Since the signing, there have been 4 releases: 1 EP “SICK FUCK”, 1 LP “THE FAILURE EPIPHANY”, and 2 EPs “ABSOLUTION” + “SACRAMENT”. Unter Null has been featured on numerous compilations from all over the globe, as well as providing remixes for some well known artists.
As far as live shows go, Unter Null started out the live circuit by mostly playing in Washington state and Oregon. The first European gig was in 2005 with 2 dates - one in Holland at Summer Darkness, and one in Belgium.
The year later, Unter Null toured Europe again over the course of a year and a half, going to Italy, Austria, Germany, England, France, Scotland, Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Greece, Spain, as well as a lengthy tour with friends XP8 in Russia.
Unter Null has currently gone on a hiatus to produce new material, so there is no set live line-up planned. Production is currently under way for side-project “STRAY,” planned to be released sometime early 2008. A new Unter Null release is expected in 2008 as well.
