Sacred Blade

SACRED BLADE is a progressive hard rock / heavy metal band formed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in 1979 by Jeff Ulmer (guitars/vocals) and William Rascan (guitars). Emerging from the underground tape-trading scene of the early 1980s, the band developed a unique sound blending heavy metal, progressive rock, atmospheric passages, and science-fiction inspired themes.
The classic lineup evolved to include Paul Davis (drums), James Channing (bass/vocals). SACRED BLADE gained international attention through acclaimed demo releases and their appearance as “Side 1 – Song 1” on Metal Massacre IV alongside legendary underground acts of the era.
In 1986, the band released their landmark album Of the Sun + Moon on Black Dragon Records in Paris, France. The album has since become recognized as a cult classic for its ambitious songwriting, cosmic imagery, and fusion of progressive and heavy musical styles.
A later lineup evolution included Ted Zawadzki on percussion and Randy Robertson on guitars/vocals. Following Jeff Ulmer’s passing in 2013, surviving members reunited to honor his legacy, culminating in SACRED BLADE’s celebrated return performance at the Keep It True Festival in Germany in 2025.
