Formed in the late 90's, Welsh indie favourites Melys quickly made their mark with early BBC Radio 1 support from Steve Lamacq, Mark Radcliffe, and Mark Riley, who championed their debut singles. Their unique sound — an emotive blend of melodic indie, dreamlike atmospheres, and sometimes dark heartfelt lyricism — won over BBC radio 1 DJ’s John Peel and Huw Stephens, leading to 11 BBC sessions and winning John Peel’s 2001 Festive 50 for their fan-favourite track “Chinese Whispers.” After a long hiatus, Melys returned in style with the 2024 album release of ‘BBC Sessions Vol. 1 ’ and their first new studio album in nearly two decades, ‘Second Wind’ (2025). The bands comeback has been met with critical acclaim, reaffirming their reputation for lush and emotional songwriting combined with their captivating, spiky and energetic live performances, all on show on their 2025 headline UK tour and their recent support shows with friends ‘Sleeper’ and The Wedding present’.
