Über Dave Fenley

Dave Fenley
Dave Fenley was born and raised in the small town of Lufkin. This East Texas town is deep rooted with religion, family values, and of course... music. At a young age Dave showed a special aptitude for learning melodies and lyrics. At 3 years old he was recorded singing a number of children's songs as well as “Honky Tonk Man” by Johnny Horton. He also sang with the children's choir in his Southern Baptist church while his father sang bass in the “big choir.” His father Elton would sing in the home all the time. He would teach Dave harmonies to all the good country songs on the radio. Dave recalls, “sometimes we would just sit in the driveway after a baseball game and sing along to the radio till mom called us in for dinner.” Dave also joined the choir in his elementary school and stayed with it till high school.
In high school his family moved to Canada so Dave had a whole different set of influences. No longer surrounded by only country music, Dave found that he loved anything with soul. Starting with Boyz II Men, Dave back tracked to artists like Otis Redding, Ray Charles, and Percy Sledge. That's when Dave really started using his voice. He began writing songs at the age of fifteen and picked up a guitar at 18. There was no stopping him after that. He taught himself how to play songs he loved and would perform them at bars before he was even legal to drink alcohol. The next decade was just Dave honing his craft, figuring out what type of artist he would be, and learning that he loved every kind of music. He had a “genre-free philosophy” for his shows so the audience would always be surprised by what would come next. Dave's talent with an audience did not go unnoticed. He has shared the stage with musical royalty like Dwight Yoakam, Miranda Lambert, and Dierks Bentley.
Today, Dave Fenley remains rooted in the same principles that shaped his earliest days: authenticity, grit and emotional honesty as reflected on his forthcoming third studio album titled Rest Of My Life, out May 8. Chronicling a journey guided by his faith and family, the project marks Dave’s first full-length album in 15 years and finds him leaning into a more soulful side of his voice like never before. From the first note, he takes us to church, celebrating a love worth “Waiting For” on the album’s lead track, followed by the afterglow of a flame that burned out fast “One Hell of a Fire.” On standout tracks like “Pretty Face,” Dave sings about everything he loves about his wife beyond what the eye can see, while the title track perfectly captures his heart and soul and why he makes music – embracing life as a husband and father and never taking a single moment for granted. With Rest of My Life, he blends soul, country and gospel to deliver a project that feels both timely and timeless.

Great venue and Dave did not disappoint. There's nothing like being in a small music hall and being right up close to an artist - that's where you can tell the real talent from the rest. Dave's an authentic singer-songwriter - he's a story-teller and it comes through in his lyrics and the way he shares pieces of his life experience and how is shapes his craft. I would highly recommend catching Dave Fenley and your local live music venue when he's in your area. Oh, also, thanks for covering "Into the Mystic" during our show Dave! I didn't call it out when you were taking requests, but me hearing your cover of that tune is literally the reason I brought my wife to the show on Saturday.
Shout out also to Main Street Crossing in Tomball - great place for live shows. Maybe get a few more choices on the dinner menu but the food was fine - the wait staff excellent and of course, the artists you are booking are impressive.
