Über Somebody's Darling
There are two bands called Somebody's Darling, one from Norway, and one from USA.
The Norwegian Somebody's Darling is a roots/country duo formed by Liz Tove Vespestad and Tine Valand in the early nineties while they were students in Newcastle, England. After a couple of years of gigging in England and Norway, they released their epynomously named debut album in 1993, which quickly went gold in their home country and reached the top of the Irish imports chart. A second album, "Forever For Now", was released in 1994, but was less successful, and the duo broke up in 1995. In 2005 they got back together, and issued a greatest hits collection called "Still Wearing Black" which included material from their first two albums as well as their acclaimed cover of Leonhard Cohen's "Dance me to the end of love" and four all new songs . Their latest album is called "Walls" (2007), and all the tracks are written by Liz Tove and Tine.
The US Somebody's Darling formed in late July '07 out of the demise of several well-to-do Dallas bands like Raleigh, and The Sundowners. The newly formed foursome rehearsed a handful of times, and within about a week began booking shows. Young (23-25), poor, and having a blast, every night they are either playing, practicing, or out at concerts. Somebody's Darling has opened up for bands like the Boxing Lesson, D Numbers, Sweet Lee Morrow, Gringo Star, The Come Latelys, and Levi Smith to name a few. Fans and acquaintances have come out of the woodworks and fill up the venues each week to show their support. They are currently in the studio every week working on new songs, and responding to several interested management agencies in the region.
