Über Emily Saliers

Emily Saliers is 1/2 of the folk-rock duo Indigo Girls (along with Amy Ray). She has recorded with many other artists such as Vonda Shepard, Caroline Aiken, Sister Hazel, Sarah Bettens, Lisa Loeb, and Michelle Malone.

Emily was born on July 22, 1963 in New Haven, Connecticut. She began her college education at Tulane University, but later transferred to Emory University. Saliers graduated from Emory in 1985 with a degree in English. She was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa as a student.

Emily Saliers is a consummate musician and plays lead guitar as well as banjo, piano, mandolin and many other world instruments.

In 2004, she did her first film score for the independent short film, One Weekend A Month and although she has not yet released a solo album, she regularly does solo appearances at benefit shows or as a guest with friends' bands.

Saliers has a passion for wine collecting, and is the co-owner of Watershed Restaurant in Decatur, Georgia. Emily also co-founded the Flying Biscuit Cafe in Atlanta, Georgia.

She has co-written a book with her father, Don Saliers, a theology professor at Candler School of Theology at Emory University, called A Song To Sing, A Life To Live: Reflections on Music as Spiritual Practice. Emily and her father often do book signings and church appearances around the country in support of the book, one of which was at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC, in May 2005.
