Über The Beggars' Way

The Beggars Way The Beggar’s Way is a band that constantly lives up to the hype. Their shows have been described as ‘near flawless’ and their debut Album ‘Higher Ground’, released in November 2016, has already gained great support and acclaim from reputable members in the Melbourne punk scene. After relocating from NZ in 2012, ‘TBW’ released two singles; ‘Long Walk Home’ and ‘Bridges and Bones’, before finally putting out their highly anticipated 11 song album this year. Although original members Alex Cullen, Ben Jones and Glen McDonald had been playing together since the NZ days, it wasn’t until they crossed paths with lead guitarist, Kris Redhead, that their sound was established and the momentum started to build, borderline uncontrollably, as singer/songwriter Ben Jones speaks of in his interview with Matty Andreazza: “Definitely over the time that we’ve been in Melbourne, and especially the last 2 years with Krissy on board, we’ve found our sound and been able to dive right in to what we’re all about. ‘Higher Ground’ as an album is all about where we’ve come from, and the constant search for where we want to be heading, and that’s never been more on point with the band than it is right now.” Drawing inspiration from the likes of The Gaslight Anthem, Social Distortion and The Bouncing Souls, TBW is establishing itself as one of the more prominent up-and-coming punk bands in Melbourne. Their sound, a combination of guitar laden hooks, cleverly constructed lyrics and a rock solid bottom end, proves relatable to all audiences, and the gang vocals on each track make it near impossible to not want to sing along, Top that all off with the band’s charisma and interaction with each other on stage, and you quickly find yourself tapping your feet along to something quite special. Although 2016 was a massive year for the band, there is no denying that 2017 and the years to come are only going to be bigger, and bring more success. Next year will see them tour their album both in Australia, and abroad, and they’ve already stated quite publicly that work is underway for their follow up release. Already recognised as one of the hardest working bands in Melbourne (having more or less done everything themselves including; writing and producing the album, filming and editing their music videos, PR & distribution), there is no doubt that The Beggars’ Way is a name that you will be hearing for years to come.
