Bramwell are guitar pop manifest. Their ‘super diamond music’ is a
sound that was picked up at a crossroads of sixties magic, eighties
DIY groups, folk-rock and the sheen of timeless AM radio pop. A keen
focus on sugary hooks and hope to one day be played by Ken Bruce is
matched with lyrics that recall the tongue-in-cheek humour of Nick
Lowe and the pastoral absurdism of XTC. This is a part of their humble
attempt to fit into the canon of British Isles songwriters like Graham
Gouldman, Elvis Costello, Martin Newell and Lee Mavers. Whilst doing
this, Bramwell also pull in their love for Modernism, Soul, Freakbeat
and classic U.S indie rock; visually and sonically.

Formed in Torquay in 2021 but now based in Cardiff, 4-piece Bramwell
have long-since garnered a reputation for converting their psychedelic
pop to a no-nonsense, rock ‘n’ roll live format: they were once told
by a punter that they sound like a pub rock band on acid. Recent
success on Our Mutual Friend and No Band Is An Island lineups, as well
as dates with friends Westside Cowboy and The Bug Club precede a
co-headline tour with Autocamper (titled ‘Easy Riders, Raging
Bulmers’) in July and a tour support slot with The Tubs in September.
As well as this, partnership with Exeter-based label spinning sister
sees them put on their own gigs, sell their own zines (Denatured,
Frenz) and share members whenever they see fit, bringing a
back-to-basics approach to DIY music.

The group are back with new single ‘Standing On Stones’. Originally
demoed and written in 2024, it took three attempts to get a recording
that they were happy with. With drums taken from their second session
with Jack Ogborne (The Cindys, Bingo Fury) and the rest recorded in
their flat in Cardiff, the final product takes influence from the sound
of acoustic based power pop records like The Go-Betweens’ ‘16 Lovers
Lane’ and Pale Fountains’ ‘Pacific Street’. Thematically, the song is a
nod to their interest in faux-paganism and the alluring pre-modern
magic of stone circles. More directly, the lyrics point to Nigel
Kneale’s 1972 BBC drama, ‘The Stone Tape’ in which sound recordings
act as ghosts of the past. Bramwell’s interpretation of this binds the
sound and words of the song together; as an expression of their
undying love for the potentials of pop, and the feeling of
hallucinating radio music that maybe never existed. The single is
self-released digitally 29th March and released on 7” in July by Gob
Nation.
