I have literally never seen anything like the Sons of Kemet. I couldn't tell if I was watching pure art come to life or listening to the 4 band members run a marathon. They played for a solid 2 hours without any breaks, 11/10 intensity almost the entire time apart from one break when Shabaka Hutchings played a Shakuhachi for an improvised solo without the rest of the group, giving the drummers some reprieve. Similarly, Theon Cross ripped a solo without the rest of the group while Tom Skinner nodded and Hutchings lit a smudge in the background. The musicianship of SOK is unparalleled; I found myself laughing, crying, astounded most of the time. But, this is not Steve Vai playing really fast music and impressing stadiums. SOK music is deep cut, beautifully and painfully human, it is drums and wind with nothing else, no effects or samples or electronics or amplifiers. They are massive, can't recommend enough.

The band was one of the best live shows I’ve experienced though. An amazing show from beginning to end. Well, I almost made it to the end. I forgot my earplugs and had to leave a couple minutes early due to not being able to bear the decibel level at the venue anymore. Please bring earplugs if you’re planning on seeing them.

This was the second show in two weeks I had the good fortune to hear Sons of Kemet play. Their performance at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN on March 25th was stellar. Add the incredible sound system at the Fine Line for their show in Minneapolis and I was literally blown away by Shabaka Hutchings saxophone and Theon Cross’ tuba playing. Maximum kudos to Tom Skinner and Eddie Hick for laying down the MASSIVE beats that propelled the two frontmen to even great cosmic heights. This was the first jazz show I’ve attended where a mosh pit nearly broke out. Two solid hours, including encore, of four of London’s hottest players performing today. Mother Universe is smiling…

Anything Shabaka does is more than worth the price of the ticket. Must see anytime and worth a drive The opener was local guys from the north side. Their band teacher from back in the day was there to offer support. Not long before they are headliners as well!

Saw them twice this week and each time they got a standing ovation. They’re absolutely killing it and deserve the applause.

Incredible. On the verge of tears, shouting and joyous laughing the entire time. I also met one of my favorite guitarists, they were watching the show in the audience!

Insanely great concert. Just rocked constantly and moved the crowd in a rare way. You can not pass up this band if they come close.

Definitely one of my favorite shows of the summer. Those gents destroyed! Can't wait to see them again.

Very good, bit of a weird choice to have a jazz piece for 45 minutes and then have the "rapper" come on stage, but they played pretty damn well.
