The Welfare Liners come together from the eclectic Athens, GA music scene. Traditional and contemporary influences combine to make performances by the band a whirling, harmonizing bluegrass spectacle. Influences of course start with Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs and The Stanley Brothers while focusing on close brother harmonies like The Louvin Brothers and Jim and Jesse. Recently the band has written a plethora of traditional sounding original songs. Coupled with a long list of bluegrass covers and originals the band has been known to play for hours on end... The band's self-titled debut, a six song EP, from 2011 is available on Ghostmeat Records. The first full-length album, High On A Hilltop, is scheduled for a Sept. 2012 release and will also be avaiable on iTunes. Yup.
