Robert Kimbrough Sr. BluesConnection

Come ride the Blues with Robert Kimbrough, Sr. BluesConnection.

The music is in his blood.

Robert Malone b.1968 Holly Springs, Mississippi) Lead by Robert Kimbrough, Sr., the youngest son of Northern Mississippi Blues legend Junior Kimbrough pays tribute to the great music of Robert’s late father. The band’s hypnotic sound is a melodic combination of traditional cotton patch blues, post-electric 60’s jams with smooth, soulful vocals. Steeped in the Blues his whole life, Robert began playing guitar at age five. He learned to play all night alongside his father, Junior (The Original Soul Blues Boy), and his brothers, David and Kinney, at house parties and picnics. In 1995 Robert joined his father and brothers at “Junior’s Place”, an infamous juke joint in Chulahoma, MS, where he played regularly until 2000, when the club closed due to a fire.

Robert Kimbrough, Sr. BluesConnection has also shared the stage with a slew of luminaries of the Mississippi Blues tradition. They have performed at Kenny Brown’s North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic in Waterford, The Juke Joint Festival and Cat Head Delta Blues Festival in Clarksdale, just to name a few.

Robert recently held the Second Annual Kimbrough Cotton Patch Blues Festival in Holly Springs, MS: a threeday
blues festival with an exhibition at Rust College on The Life and Legacy of Junior Kimbrough, a Cotton
Patch Blues Musicians Workshop featuring instructional sessions by those that played with Junior Kimbrough,
live performances by many great Hill Country and Cotton Patch Blues artists and a special Kimbrough Cotton Patch Kölsch microbrew beer. This event is held at a bona fide juke joint in Holly Springs, MS dubbed The Hut.

Robert is always busy playing all the big festivals including Juke Joint Fest, North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic, Blues Rules Crissier in Switzerland, Lucerne Blues Festival in Switzerland, Prairie Crossroads Blues Fest in Champaign, IL and the Riverfront Blues Festival in Wilmington, DE.

Robert is one of the hardest working artists in the blues world and continues to share his rare form of crowd pleasing blues all over the
world. Robert Kimbrough Sr Blues Connection recently won 1st place band in the 2018 Mississippi Delta Regional Blues Challenge as well as being a semi-finalist in Memphis, TN at the 2019 International Blues Challenge.
