The Fades

The Fades didn't arrive with the indie sleaze revival—they were there the first time around.

Emerging from South West London, The Fades were part of the vibrant London guitar scene now known as indie sleaze. They cut their teeth at iconic venues including the Metro Club, Buffalo Bar, the Windmill, Nambucca, Old Blue Last, the Barfly and the legendary Notting Hill Arts Club.

Sharing stages with Bloc Party, Mystery Jets, Jamie T and the Others, and touring the UK with Art Brut, The Fades became a familiar name on London's indie circuit. They were championed by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio, received regular support from XFM, and performed at Love Music Hate Racism events.

True to their DIY roots, the band recorded their debut single in a flat above a chip shop before it was picked up by national radio. A string of acclaimed singles and a mini-album followed, earning coverage in NME, Drowned in Sound, Artrocker and The Fly, while tracks featured on the Buffalo Bar Compilation and an X-Ray Magazine covermount CD.

Tours across the UK, Ireland, Italy and the US East Coast followed after signing to New York's Cranky Girl Records along with a headline appearance at Tbilisi Open Air Festival.

Today, The Fades blend post-punk urgency, garage rock swagger and hook-filled British indie with the same DIY spirit that first put them at the heart of London's underground. With their latest album, Night Terrors, they prove they're still making urgent, melodic guitar music on their own terms.
