About Emily Mac Music
Emily Mac's powerful raw voice is like the first few sips of scotch: it's sweet, smoky fire. She combines the guttural wisdom of Janis Joplin with the honeyed sounds of Etta James. Soon she'll be singing all your secrets.
In 2014, Emily received the competitive factor demo grant, an award from the Canadian government that supports budding musicians. She released "California This Winter" in 2015 and it received national radio play on Independent Canadian radio and CBC radio.
Emily was born in Toronto and raised on Motown. Her father spent much of hid school years sneaking across the river to Detroit to spend his nights listening to legends like the Temptations, Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding. Emily was mesmerized by this music and spent her childhood singing and dancing along to every note.
Emily's first performances were in Theatre. She moved to New York City to study at the Atlantic Acting School founded by William H. Macy and David Mamet. She was also an ensemble member of the award winning Rising Sun Performance Company and spent many hours honing her craft with like-minded artists.
Emily felt herself drawn into the NYC music scene. She liked to wander the halls of the Chelsea Hotel and soak up the vintage vibes of the artists & musicians who lived there before. She frequented the Groove and the Blue Note and filled her nights with music.
Everything came together one night at B.B. Kings Blues Club when Emily watched the Reverend Al Green perform. He struck a chord with her soul and she knew right then & there that music was what she needed to do with her life.
Emily has played in front of thousands at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival, Niagara Wine Festival and the Beaches International Jazz Festival. She has sung at NYC's oldest rock club The Bitter End and the Rockwood Music Hall. Emily brings her soulful vocals, sultry swagger and flare for drama to each and every performance captivating her audience.
