About Lucy In Blue

Stepping boldly in the dusty footsteps of such giants as King Crimson, Camel and Pink Floyd, Lucy in Blue take the stage with atmospheric grooves and bittersweet harmonies. Their newest album, In Flight, released on Karisma Records 12.4.19, deals with the dilemmas of the psychedelic experience and spiritual poverty. Confusion, despair and wonder carry the listener from black beaches to snowy peaks, to emerge at the apex of felt experience, in flight. Lucy celebrated its release with a show at the esteemed Roadburn festival, receiving praise from the vibrant crowd of metalheads attending and enthusiastic reviews from various publications, such as Prog Magazine and Everything Is Noise.
Meeting up for the first time in November 2013, each member from a separate corner of the capital area of Iceland, a musical connection was formed instantly. Soon after Matti (bass, vocals) had stumbled on to the right group of friends in gymnasium and met Naldo (keyboards, vocals) he got his former schoolmate, Steini (guitar, vocals) to join them for a jam session. With no plans, but admirations for each other‘s skills, they stole Kolli (drums) from an off-venue Iceland Airwaves gig to complete the circle and from there, the jams went on. A psychedelic vibe pervaded their music from the start, and exchanging influences, the boys jointly discovered the world of prog rock and soon immersed themselves in such records as Tarkus, In the Court of the Crimson King and ...Lifun. The songs of their debut album were largely born out of this initial phase of discovery which led them to partake in Músíktilraunir, an annual battle of the bands where they snatched the second place, as well as awards for instrumental skill, having only played together for three months. From there, Lucy played at Iceland Airwaves, Eistnaflug and all the prominent venues of downtown Reykjavik, all the while evolving musically and eventually releasing their self-titled debut album in 2016. The album quickly gained support on Bandcamp and was received enthusiastically at their energetic and spontaneous live performances.
For the second album, In Flight, Lucy had bigger ambitions. Having impressed Walter Hoijemakers of Roadburn with their performance at Norðanpaunk festival in 2018, only a tap was needed to get the rock rolling. They signed a record contract with the progressive rock record label, Karisma Records, based in Norway, and played a riveting release show at Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands in April of 2019. While spreading the word of In Flight in Iceland and abroad, Lucy in Blue continue to pump out new tunes and plan to record their third album soon.
