About Spektre

Often touted as one of the most exciting acts to emerge onto the UK techno scene over the past decade, no synopsis of the current dance music landscape would be complete without special reference to British duo, Spektre. Established in 2006 following years of shared experiences on the other side of the booth, what started out as an experimental live project for founding members Paul Maddox and Rich Wakley, has now evolved into something extra special – their unwavering avant-garde ethos to music creation earning them a spot as one of the front-running purveyors of cosmic techno internationally, and over 500,000 monthly listeners on Spotify in the process.

Hailed by industry peers as a “shining beacon of originality in a musical ocean of mediocrity” Spektre is an act that lets the music do the talking above anything else. Transcending hype and gimmicks across every aspect of their careers, Paul and Rich have fast become key ambassadors for British dance music and have, as a result, gained hefty praise from a plethora of techno heavyweights including Adam Beyer, Carl Cox, Pleasurekraft and Alan Fitzpatrick.

As a production outfit, they have built up a vast and incredibly diverse catalogue since their debut outing on the now-defunct Dance Electric in 2006, with two full-length studio albums under their belt (Casting Shadows Without Lightand Cyclic Operations) and numerous releases on the likes of Drumcode, Kraftek and their very own Respekt Recordings, which they launched back in 2009.Originally conceived as an outlet for Spektre to release their own material on their own terms, Respekt has since morphed into something far greater, with the label now widely regarded as a melting pot of European and UK output and an important incubator for burgeoning techno talent.

As performers, Spektre’s unique sound has taken them to some of the biggest and most highly regarded venues worldwide, with frequent bookings at the likes of Fabric London, Space Ibiza, Exit Festival, Pacha Buenos Aires and Burning Man to name just a few. On stage, their long-standing chemistry and constant desire to experiment always results in an exciting, high-octane spectacle and their live exploits are often documented alongside guest slots from esteemed cohorts in their regular Mutual Respekt Podcast.

With string of chart-topping club records over the past 18 months including their huge Beatport #1 “Back In To Consciousness” in November 2018, Spektre now look to the next chapter of their incredible journey as they ready their eagerly-anticipated third studio album “Against A Dark Background” – due for release on Pleasurekraft’s Kraftek imprint in January 2020. With a brand new live show also penned for early next year and more exciting projects on the horizon, Spektre look set to leave an indelible mark on the music industry and pave the way for future generations of budding British artists for decades to come.

“The homegrown producers tipped to give Berlin’s minimal crowd a run for their money”
- DJ Mag Jan 2007

"It’s got to the point now where I can pretty much play a Spektre record out without having to listen to it. Their tunes are always the front of my "box", in case I get into trouble and need to rock it fast!"
- Mike Monday - Feb 2007

The formulation of the Spektre concept is the brainchild of Filthy Rich and Paul Maddox. The staggering amount of success and experience within the notoriously hard to crack music production industry that both have achieved, is proof already that Spektre is one act to keep a watchful eye on.

Both in their early 20s Paul and Rich have achieved notoriety in their respective fields of dance music. Aside from all of his productions being signed by many of house musics biggest labels Richs tracks have received multiple plays on Radio 1 and support from DJs all over the world. This success has led to Rich recently signing to Serious Artist Management home to peers such as Valentino Kanzayani, UMEK and Jo Mills.

Paul has been producing some of the most upfront hard-edged music since the tender age of 15 while most of us were preoccupied with the playstation! This dedication to the studio has seen Pauls work championed by the leaders in his field as well as receiving significant support again from Radio 1.

It was through a mutual love of underground minimal techno and electronic experimentation that the pair began to form an understanding together in the studio. The outcome of this experimentation was the birth of Spektre. The thought process behind Spektre is that it will become more than just a name. The initial inspiration for their productions stems from early R&S releases, Joey Beltram and Westbam right through to modern day luminaries M.A.N.D.Y, Booka Shade and Trentemoller. Their dark, minimal sound will be unleashed in the format of an EP on Dance Electric - this will just be the beginning as the pair have already started to make inroads into their debut artist album. This will spell the beginning of much more to come from Spektre; expect more releases, a live show incorporating Ableton Live and a whole host of other cutting edge technology.
