The Worst Horse

The Worst Horse sono una band milanese nata nel 2014 dall’incontro tra David (cantante) e Omar (chitarrista e compositore). L’idea è fin da subito quella di proporre una musica caratterizzata da riff accattivanti e atmosfere cupe con ritornelli di impatto,
potendo contare su un timbro vocale dalle forti tinte rock blues. I gruppi di riferimento spaziano dai Black Sabbath e gli anni settanta allo stoner rock di band come The Sword, dall'hard rock svedese degli Hellacopters alle sonorità in stile Alice in Chains. I testi di David attingono a piene mani dalla letteratura dell’orrore e dai film di paura che hanno spaventato tutti noi sin da piccoli: raccontano di dipendenza e depravazione, evocando spiriti e demoni che spesso ci siedono accanto.

Al progetto si uniscono Pietro Grassilli al basso (ex Jester Beast) e Francesco Galimberti alla batteria, con i quali viene composto e registrato nell’esoterica Torino il primo EP omonimo della band. The Worst Horse EP ottiene ottime recensioni da parte della critica specializzata, che descrive il sound come “quanto di più sporco ha transitato nelle vostre orecchie, la palude della Louisiana con un’ottica seventies rock”.

In seguito alla registrazione dell’EP la band si dedica a una fitta attività live, frutto di
interminabili ore di jam sessions alla ricerca della perfetta intesa musicale. Il 2016 vede la separazione da Pietro, mentre la band continua ad inseguire una sperimentazione che renda il proprio sound sempre più maturo e consapevole.
Nel 2018 vede la luce il concept album The Illusionist, co-prodotto insieme a Luca Liviero dei Bios Music Studios (con alle spalle, tra gli altri, lavori di Stef Burns & Alto Voltaggio, Jgor Gianola). L’album vede la partecipazione di Gabriel Pignata (Destrage) nel ruolo di bassista su tutti i pezzi e di Luca Princiotta (Doro Pesch, Blaze Bayley) come chitarra solista sul monolitico brano It. Questo si preannuncia come un anno pieno di novità per i The Worst Horse, che
completano la formazione con il bassista Riccardo Crespi (ex Hyades, Generation On Dope).

The Worst Horse is an Italian band coming from Milan, founded in 2014 by singer David and guitar player and songwriter Omar. The idea, from the very beginning, was to play captivating riffs, surrounded by gloomy atmospheres with catchy refrains, counting on David’s distinctive dark and bluesy vocal timbre.The musical references go from seventies bands like Black Sabbath to stoner rock groups like The Sword, passing through Hellacopters’ Swedish hard rock winking to some of thenihilistic Alice in Chains grooves. David’s lyrics draw fully from horror literature and the creepy movies that scared all of us when we were children, narrating addiction andperversion, evoking spirits and demons that subconsciously exist behind us.

The band was then completed by Pietro Grassilli (Jester Beast) on the bass andFrancesco Galimberti on the drums, and immediately released the first self-titled EP,recorded in the esoteric city of Turin. The Worst Horse EP obtained a good critical success, being the sound of the band described as “the dirtiest thing will pass through your ears, the Louisiana Wetlands from a seventies-rock perspective”.

The four musicians later dedicated themselves to a dense live activity, natural result of the endless hours spent in the practice room jamming in search of the perfect musical feeling among them.In 2016 Pietro left the band, that continued the direction of musical experimentation towards a more mature and self-aware sound.

2018 will finally be the year in which their first full-length will see the light: The Illusionist will be a concept work, co-produced with Luca Liviero of Bios Music Studios (already worked with Stef Burns and Alto Voltaggio, Jgor Gianola among the others), with Gabriel Pignata from Destrage playing all the bass parts. The album will also host Luca Princiotta (Doro Pesch and Blaze Bayley) with a guitar solo on the monolithic track It. This year is expected to be one full of developments for The Worst Horse, that recently completed their line up with new enter bassist Riccardo Crespi (former Hyades and Generation on Dope).
