About JYROSCOPE

Jyroscope is the epitome of progressive Hip-Hop over ear-consuming soundscapes upon which the strongest impressions of truth are painted. Ranging from poetic rhyme schemes to heart felt imagery, this group symbolizes the first time you fell in love with music.

Coming from the south side of Chicago, Jyroscope originally consisted of two explosive emcees possessing a monstrous live performance and tremendous writing prowess. I.B. Fokuz, the multi-talented emcee/ producer of the group joined forces with emcee Collasoul Structure in 2005; performing at the Hyde Park Academy high school fashion show from which they both attended at the time. In the beginning stages, Jyroscope cut their teeth at numerous open mics throughout the city of Chicago and created an organic buzz by performing several nearly completed songs from their catalog with no internet presence or physical material available at the time. From there, they elevated to performing at high schools, colleges, toured around the country and had the privilege of opening for world renowned artists such as Saul Williams, DJ Kool Herc, K-os, The Cool Kids, Cage, and Pac Div just to name a few. Over the years, they’ve built a strong relationship with Chicago's own turtablist Dj Seanile, who is now officially the third member of the group. Together, this trio has not only created a demand on the underground Chicago scene and made a little noise on the East and West Coasts of the US, they have now gained access to wider exposure by executing a breathtaking performance at SXSW, having licensed an original song for McDonalds that aired during Super Bowl XLVII and also featured on the long-awaited follow up album from the legendary Dj and producer Black Madonna.

Jyroscope's influences are a mixture of just about every genre of music, and this eclectic spirit is evident in everything from their debut release Ragtime(2011), which contains samples of older beloved classics from Nina Simone and Billy Holiday to their genre-tackling projects On The Rocks(2011), which is made up of samples of their favorite Rock and Roll songs to the most recent On The House(2016), which is a tribute to their favorite House songs and artists. They aren’t afraid to experiment with various different sounds and cultures and will continue to push the envelope while paying homage to what has come before them.

Currently, Jyroscope is building up to their upcoming EP entitled “MUTE” that will feature the Chicago electro artist/producer duo Gatz N Goods that will be released via ReServed Records this fall. With this project they hope to inspire the masses with thought-provoking, concept-driven songs filled with breathtaking real emotion over gritty, hard-hitting, bouncey production.
Jyroscope is constantly on a mission to grow in both their craft and their communication with their audience, guaranteeing an honest yet suspenseful and adventurous form of music.
