About Kate Gogarty

Hailing from the idyllic mountain suburb of Kurrajong, Kate Gogarty was always surrounded by music. Kate started playing aged 14, when she used to play her own sets supporting her father, a musician himself. While she started out playing covers, she began writing her own songs at 16. The songs didn’t make it past the bedroom until 2009 when Thirsty Merc guitarist Sean Carey heard Gogarty’s songs and invited her to his studio. The result was the Blurry EP, with the songs reflecting the observations of a heartbroken teenager. The self-funded and self-released EP gained widespread airplay and saw Kate tour interstate for the first time. Blurry received a number of glowing reviews with Reverb magazine awarding it a score of 4.5 out of 5 and describing it as a “beautiful yet haunting work”, admiring Gogarty’s “deep poetic lyrics” and a “vocal range from bluesy and moody, right through to the soaring and beautiful” before surmising “Kate Gogarty is a rising star that anyone who hears her voice could fall in love with”. The release of Blurry was then followed by significant support slots including Kate playing with Renee Geyer, Diesel, Rai Thistethwayte, Marcia Hines, 1927, Dragon, The Whitlams, Wendy Matthews as well as headlining The Basement for a special launch show for her EP. 2ser described Kate playing live as bringing “magic to her performances” and she has built a solid local following and has stepped the stage at the Vanguard, The Metro, Notes Live, Sandringham, The Brass Monkey, Rock Lily, The Annandale Hotel and many other local venues. Kate also played a number of shows at the Tamworth music Festival and show cased at the BigSound music confrence in Brisbane. With a new chapter written resulting in songs, which blend plaintively sung and strummed, folk infused with raw and emotive storytelling, Kate began working with Producer Ben McCarthy (Pete Murray, Kate Miller-Heidke, Washington) and Sean Carey. Together they captured a second EP, Monsters, which was released and toured nationally with her band in 2013. Blurry EP and Monsters EP are both available on iTunes!
