About Long Bow
Gen Wilkinson - Lead and Slide Guitar
Gen Wilkinson is a session and performing lead guitarist, songwriter, and composer presently residing in Gahanna, Ohio. After having played clarinet and viola in her earlier days, Gen self-taught herself to play lead & slide guitar. Gen is currently in the process of recording a guitar-centric album that combines a variety of genres, but is heavily centered on her first love, Southern Rock.
Julie Grisez - Drums
It was 1980/81 in middle class suburbia Maumee, Ohio when a shy preteen girl discovered the art of drumming. Courtesy of her older sisters vinyl collection, Julie found The Police's first album, Outlandos D'Amour and a quirky song called "Peanuts." The drums drew her in immediately. Pencils, croquet stakes and a slab of concrete or strategically placed pillows quasi resembling a drum kit were the beginning of a lifelong obsession. To find her drumming inspiration, Julie began her career trying to mimic Stewart Copeland with a no name hihat, a Ludwig Acrolite snare drum and being accompanied by a Sony Walkman. In 1985, Julie started performing in varied alternative rock bands from the Toledo, Ohio area, and feels she was lucky enough to have been in the middle of late 80's early 90's booming Athens, GA music scene performing with a local favorite, The Labrea Stompers. Julie feels fortunate to have performed and recorded with some "super" Ohio musical acts over the span of her career and needless to say, the "genre" is all over the board. Citing many influences, she is a sucker for an infectious groove! Julie also finds time to build/design and restore drums. Performing live is what it is all about for Julie with "the energy and the band working collectively as a fine tuned machine." She feels very honored and humbled to have performed with such a varied group of "spectacular musicians" during her career. Julie feels that diverse mix of musicians in Long Bow brings "excitement, professionalism, a bit of guessing and pure fun" to a true band atmosphere.
David Shawn Ruppert - Bass Guitar
Strumming on his Father's acoustic guitar as a small child led to a fascination with music which has lasted Shawn's entire life. "Being able to perform or create a piece of music, to express emotions with it, that is a powerful gift." Shawns influences are many, from the record collection of his Father in his early years to the present. "I love all music, no matter the genre, I consider myself fortunate to have been able to live through the changes in music that has led to all the different genre of today." Shawn can play guitar, but he fell in love with the Bass around the age of 11. He had some formal lessons, was even taken under the wing of a local Bassist, but for the most part has taught himself the art. " I am not a flashy player by any means, but i dont feel thats the job of the instrument i play, leave that for the guitar player" he says laughing. Shawn's playing has been described in print as "Simple melodic bass lines that pound in your chest like lead." He can groove, play in the pocket and he knows his role in a band. "The Bass is almost a percussion instrument, hold that groove with the drums and keep the low end thumping, a great rhythm section is the key to having a tight band." He doesn't lack in stage presence either. Shawn has recorded and performed with numerous Rock, Americana, and Country acts from several different States, but mainly in his home State of Ohio. He is also a pretty decent "off the cuff" player and fills in for groups whenever the need arises. " I feel pretty lucky to have been able to grow and learn by performing with some of the best musicians in NW Ohio, musicians I would consider "A" level and a few even World Class, that's a pretty special feeling." Shawn is excited to be a part of Long Bow "Lets see where this chapter can take us"
