About Marcus L. Miller

Marcus is a composer, band leader, and lyricist. A natural born drummer, his experiences include several world tours and hundreds of performances at theaters, nightclubs, & festivals throughout the world. In addition, Miller composes music for film and stage.
Miller is a multi-talented artist/percussionist based in Southern California. He is the founder and musical director of Freedom Jazz Movement, a performance art ensemble. Miller is also the director of the percussion ensemble Project World Drum and the bandleader of the Marcus Miller ensemble. Miller is a co-member of M & M...the Afro-Persian Experience. He serves as the Music Director for the Lula Washington Dance Theatre.
In June 2016, the Marcus Miller Ensemble, accompanied the Lula Washington Dance Theatre performing 4 nights at the Israeli Opera House in Tel-Aviv. In November 2015, Marcus and his jazz band traveled to Russia to headline the Vladivostock jazz festival. In 2011, they toured 20 cities in China with the Lula Washington Dance Theatre. Marcus has also performed in Brazil, Canada, Japan, Mexico, and throughout Europe. He has played many notable venues and festivals, both internationally and nationally, including Reggae on the River, the San Jose jazz festival, the Lincoln Center out of doors festival, the Virginia Arts festival, the Broad stage in Santa Monica, and Grand Performances' California Plaza, and most recently at the Wallis Annenberg theater in Beverly Hills.
As a professional drummer, Marcus has recorded, toured, and performed with many artists including Ben Harper & the innocent criminals, Sheila E., Vinx, The Watts Prohphets, Bennie Maupin, Trevor Hall, Ozomatli, Ashanti, Bobby Bryant Jazz Poetry Collective, Leon Mobley & Da Lion, Michelle Shocked, and the Angel City Chorale.
