About Sly Roosevelt
Sly was formed in 2008 by original members Sean McDaniel (guitar, vocals), Alexander Durand (bass), and Matthew Marshall (drums). Former members include Justin Kay (bass), Brian Graham (keys), Megan Durand (keys), and Aimee Schmalz (vocals). Since their performance at 2010’s inaugural Huntington Music & Arts Festival, Sly Roosevelt has been busy. While playing shows around the tri-state area, the band has made it a point to participate in various charitable events around the community. These events include Music for Monica, Megan Rocks, and the Robert Maynard Benefit Concert. Sly Roosevelt has played at the V Club’s local music showcase, This Aint No Disco! Radio appearances include an acoustic set on X106.3’s Loud & Local with Brandon Woolum, an electric set on WMUL 88.1 hosted by Dan Taylor, and an electric set on U92 Morgantown Sound. In June 2011, the band took a big step to create their own album. While working their day jobs, Sly worked 6 to 8 hours nightly to build their own studio, and then immediately began producing their own debut EP. Recorded by members Alex and Matt, the band quickly churned out the first 4 songs of their album. These songs are featured on the Old “P” EP, which was officially released August 27 at the 2011 Huntington Music & Arts Festival. The songs have been mixed by local sound engineer Jon Parsons and were mastered by Carl Rowatti at Trutone Mastering Studios, located just outside New York City, NY. At the 2011 HMAF, the band had more than just the EP to share with fans. Sly had recently stocked up on new merchandise featuring art designed by friend and local artist, Empa Hope. By the end of 2011, Sly Roosevelt had completed recording their 11-track full length LP Animal Tracks, released in 2012. After the release of the album the band toured states surrounding West Virginia for 30 days and 15 shows. In the fall of 2012 Sly entirely self produced and released Weird (EP) and Animal Tracks Tour DVD at the third annual HMAF. Currently they are playing regionally and writing new material for their next release TBA. Post progressive and never passive aggressive.
