About Trichotomy

Australian piano trio Trichotomy really need no introduction. Over the course of three compelling albums for Naim Jazz - Variations (2010), The Gentle War (2011), and Fact Finding Mission (2013), 2017’s KNOWN/UNKNOWN (Challenge) and collaborative releases with String Quartet – “Live With String Quartet (2018), and folk-jazz-blues troubadour Danny Widdicombe – “Between the Lines” (2019) they have carved out a reputation as one of the most exciting trios in contemporary jazz. Inspired by a diverse range of influences from Portico Quartet, Pat Metheny and John Zorn to Tord Gustavsen and Nils Petter Molvear, Trichotomy’s music combines a dense rhythmic focus with a refined melodic clarity. In 2021 they collaborated with percussionist Nozomi Omote for a suite of new work featuring vibraphone and marimba, released as multi-media packages.
Their new album ‘TO VANISH’ is released in 2023, and they tour the UK-Europe.
This is a group that continually redefines what is possible in contemporary jazz.

Selected performance history:
Jazzahead Festival Showcase Germany, Tokyo, Takatsuki, and Kutchan Jazz Festivals Japan, Melbourne Jazz Festival, tours around the UK, MIDEM France & tours to Japan, Canada, China, & South America.

The Guardian
"These three make the resources of the conventional piano trio go a long way."

MOJO Magazine
“delightfully detailed ensembles, full of wit and vigour…they bamboozle with tricky time-signatures and intricate themes”

All About Jazz
“one of the most exciting trios in contemporary music”.

The Guardian
‘vivaciously balances thematic eloquence with tight-knit polyphonic sophistication…you have to know a lot about music to make it this well
