About Pretty Citizens

Pretty Citizens are a four-piece rock band consisting of James Addy (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), Luke Watson (Lead Guitar), Josh Welsh (Bass) and John Hulse (Drums), based in Nottingham. The band formed when James and Luke met at university, discovering a shared love of 60s rock and roll, Alan Partridge, and turtleneck sweaters, and a shared home – the idyllic market town of Barnsley. The lineup as it is today was completed in late 2014. Pretty Citizens kicked off aiming to emulate the 60s style which sparked that original bond – but, as the songs developed, they began to show more contemporary influences and the disparate, experimental elements that hopefully create a sound that is unique to the four people making it. Debut single Lost Control perfectly demonstrates this mixing of styles – transforming from a ‘bluesy groove’ to a ‘mind-bending’ guitar solo (Turn Up The Volume), with touches of shoegaze and psychedelic rock. ‘A fitting dose of alternative and psych-rock’ (Vinyl Noise), Lost Control has received a great deal of attention across social media, being hailed as ‘an immense track from a band with lots of potential’ (The Indiependent) and ‘the type of tune that artists dream about writing’ (Diamond Deposits). Following Lost Control, the band has gone from strength to strength, playing the biggest shows of their career so far – headlining a packed venue at the reputable Tramlines festival in Sheffield, and also playing very well-received sets at Wellowfest and Live in Barnsley in the summer of 2016. They have also supported bands such as The Shimmer Band, Man Made, Judas and Lucie Barat & The Au Revoirs on tour. The band are set to follow the single with the release of their debut EP, Saturday Night (Sunday Morning), in early 2017. Inspired in part by the iconic British novel and film from which it takes its name, the EP is a collection of songs that centre on themes of youth and nostalgia. Musically, Saturday Night (Sunday Morning) will further showcase the band’s versatility and the breadth of their sound – from the bright, melodic pop of Retrospect and live favourite Rose, to the dense psychedelia of Easy Pleasing, and the atmospheric, hip hop-tinged indie rock of the title track. The future looks very bright for these four boys from Nottingham. Listen to Lost Control on Spotify: http://spoti.fi/2aOI9bG www.prettycitizens.com An atmosphere of talent.
