The performances from all three artists who played that night were amazing. Just a night filled with beauty, joy, & deep soul. i am so grateful that my sun & i were able to spend the Winter Solstice reveling in such powerful energy.
My one complaint, & it is a big one, is the sound & lights folks REALLY dropped the ball when Yaima came on. Multiple times throughout the night we had bright, white spotlights shined directly into our eyes, which was quite painful & shocking. i have never experienced that in all my years of going to a variety of different shows.
Second, the sound for Yaima was just terrible. Pepper Proud's voice was inaudible half the time, usually whenever there was heavy bass. Which, the bass, dude, wow! The bass was so strong, it not only made my whole body vibrate painfully, but drowned out the music completely. i've been to multiple electronica shows, plenty of noise & industrial shows, & never experienced this. It ruined many of the songs & i ended up leaving early because i was so sad & frustrated at not being able to actually hear the performance that we came to see.
The other two artists had great sound, so i'm not sure what the problem was, but it was a real bummer ending to what had been a magical evening. i very likely won't return to this venue again, as it was evident that multiple people around me were also in discomfort, & i watched several leave because of it, but the sound tech's seemed oblivious & did nothing about it.
Anyways, all of the performers gave incredible performances, & i'm looking forward to seeing them again ~ just hopefully in a different venue!

Amazing venue and performance and crowd. They projection screen was way too bright, it felt like we were all looking at a big TV. I prefer no projections at all and some more tasteful mood lighting. I also did not care for the breaks between the songs, I would rather have one continuous set, like an ecstatic dance.

About Yaima
YAIMA is a Cascadian Elemental & Alchemical Electronic Music Duo based in Seattle WA. 2014-present
Creating a deeply captivating and finely tuned container for their audiences- YAIMA (Mas Higasa and Pepper Proud) allow the listener the opportunity to Journey through Sonic Soundscapes traversing sensually stimulating and heart centered compositions deeply inspiring each listener to return to their truth. Their music is reminiscent of well known music groups such as Purity Ring, Massive Attack, Bjork, Portishead, Wildlight, Emancipator and Lulacruza.
YAIMA’s music is interwoven with intention and acknowledgment for the elementals. As the earth transmutes through fire, the winds move the water, the water falls and replenishes the earth- the cycles of gratitude and reciprocity is what weaves these harmonies and deeply pulsing rhythms into a unique and balanced sensational journey.
The name YAIMA emerges from two sources one from the Mapudungun language meaning "that which water runs through” and the other from the gorgeous Island District of Okinawa Japan- Over the last 4 years YAIMAs music has been touching people all over the earth, from the US, Canada, UK, France, Spain, Germany, Poland, Italy, Hungary, Australia, New Zeland, Israel, Malaysia, South & Central America, Guatemala, South East Asia and Russia.
Quotes from our community:
"breathtaking music"….
"music that is our perfect prescription medicine”…."heal the soil of our existence and making a difference"...
"music which seems to have a soul of it's own".. "It's very rare to come across something like that these days"...
"AS FAR AS THE REACHES OF COSMIC LIGHT"... "Your music meets the deep of this wombwarmed firelight as the Northern Mothers say yes to it all. Thank you”…."music is pure magic...healing to myself and many others close to me”…."música tant sentida i lluminosa. Gaudiré i faré gaudir de bons viatges amb OvO….."crying from the beauty of it...stunning music" - "full of poetry & love"…"it's certainly worth it"… "the band were all so tight, and the visuals were entrancing"…"so much healing to this heart of mine”…."an amazing show!"…"float to that melting point of bliss where heartbreak and love are the same thing and there are no boundaries between my skin and the universe”…."medicine songs"…"the much-anticipated OvO album!!"…"beautiful music that was been present for me already in so many quiet, celebratory, precious moments in my life"…..”the music is like a charm :)…."This music heals me!"…"vibrational blessings and beautiful artistry".."Social and Evolutionary Culture here and now”…."angels of technology"….
Through a process of gradual, peaceful, progressive change Yaima’s second album “OvO” offers audiences a state-of-the-art conceptual experience. “OvO" immediately captivates the listener with an over-arching and enchanting story line that portrays the simple life cycle of a seed. The prominent motif of the Seasons weaves the album into perceived chapters, each section reflecting themes, lessons and impressions opportune to it’s season. “OvO”means "seed" or "egg" and stands for the point in time or space at which something starts- the next evolution. The Owl appears on the cover art as well as in the title "OvO" and represents the elemental energy of the Wind. Owl stands for the truth and the ability to navigate through the darkest night by finding and listening to the wisdom and light from within ourselves. OvO’s overarching theme of the cyclical nature of life creates a sense of deep connection to the music that listeners around the world have been keen to rediscover each time they listen to the album.
