Genre Gypsy Swing with Vocals Music from the 20’s-40’s. Robbie Grice : Guitar,Vocals; George Fulton aka Sputter Jones: Bass, Vocals; Jerry Sims: Lead Guitar Kristen Elaine Harris: Violin; Professor Doug Graham: Clarinet Artists We Also Like Django Reinhardt, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Stochelo Rosenberg, Antoine Boyer, Denis Chang, Michael Joseph Harris, Tchavolo Schmitt, Fapy Lafertin. Bio Robbie Grice and Sputter Jones formed Flat Out Strangers in 1998 as a raw Americana duo that paid homage to early Hillbilly, Country and Western, and especially Rockabilly music. Previously they played for many years together in the popular 80’s and 90’s Rockabilly trio, The Losers. Robbie and Sputter, both enamored of the roots of their music, began a journey backwards in time that led to Western Swing, Gypsy Jazz, and Big Band Music. It was then that they rediscovered Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli and The Quintette du Hot Club de France, leading to their transformation into a Gypsy Jazz band, focusing on vocal versions of classic Django instrumentals. After several years of solid research, song development, and practice, the band added guitar virtuoso Jerry Sims of Sims Music, 2013 SC Fiddling Champion Kristen Harris on violin, and USC Distinguished Professor Emeritus Doug Graham on clarinet, becoming an authentic hot club American swing band. FOS plays an extensive songlist and sports a sharp, vintage look. Most of their current repertoire of classics and standards harkens back to the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s--The Golden Age of The Great American Songbook.
