About Mike Dayao
Sharing Aloha One Strum at a Time
"Ua ola loko I ke ALOHA"
("Love gives life within")
Being born and raised on the island of Oahu, Hawaii has indeed given Mike Dayao the roots and foundation of ALOHA - love, peace, joy, compassion and mercy. Growing up with the spirit of Aloha running through his veins, he gained heart-felt appreciation of the talented music playing throughout the islands of Hawaii at a young age. He started off learning piano, and as he exposed himself to more local music, his inspiration grew to another level, leading him to teach himself acoustic guitar at the age of 9. His natural musical talent and taste for musical appreciation led him to greater avenues after he moved to California for college.
While living in San Francisco, California, he formed the island-reggae rock band, My Peoples (formerly Kapakahi); and after a good run with them, Mike Dayao is exploring his solo path as a Hawaiian Contemporary Musician, sharing ALOHA and positive island vibes to the masses. His captivating lyrics will leave you humming his melodies, and his wholesome, yet soulful voice will fill the corners of any room and make you wonder how such a sound can come from such a small Filipino-Hawaiian. His sounds will take you back to when Hawaii radio stations would play Ka’au Crater Boys and Kalapana but with a fresh urban twist. Many define his style of music as a blend of Bob Marley & Bruno Mars, mixed in with a bit of Jack Johnson and John Cruz. Throughout some of his live sets, including his bi-weekly gig at Noelani’s Bar & Grill in San Carlos, you'll find him accompanied by percussionists Luis Hernandez & his Uncle Pete.
His newest tracks can be found on iTunes, and pay tribute to the loss of his best friend, Michael Arcega, whose life was taken too soon by random gunfire in San Jose last October 2015. Mike Dayao continues to share and work on new music in memory of his best friend and in hopes of spreading the spirit of ALOHA that gives him life within.
