About Damond Young

Why Damond Young

Out of the Ruins of Katrina yields another survivor. Native New Orleanian, DY, born at Charity Hospital (the same hospital Jay Electronica, Mahalia Jackson, Lil Wayne, Master P, Soulja Slim, Harry Connick Jr. and a host of other famous New Orleanian Greats were born), is not only rebuilding life as he once knew it, but he is in the midst of rebuilding a new skyscraper in the city, himself. His most recent mixtape, soon to be released entitled "Freestyle Sessions" is gaining him nationwide exposure and is groundbreakingly opening a plethora of doors for him as an artist. DY is 21 year old rookie who feels, "you never wanna call yourself a professional, because the bar of your best should be raised every day you wake up. You always have more to learn."

Though DY is an unsigned artist, his friends are aiming to be in high places as well. Working with and befriended by "EGMG" spearhead and artist "The Show", who signed to the indisputable creator of Cash Money's sound, Mannie Fresh's label. He is also featured on DY's debut solo mixtape "NO BARGAINS". DY has collaborated with a host of local talents and contributed his fearless openness of his personal life, messages of hope and raw delivery every time, which you can also find on his cover of Kanye West's "Power" found on the "Freestyle Sessions" mixtape. Last year when he opened for a Concert on Tulane University's Campus, Headlined by Lil Wayne, He and the now Young Money President MackMaine went head to head in a freestyle battle backstage. Let's just say he gained the respect of him and other on lookers on the set.

DY's work ethic is uncanny and the industry is starting to recognize him. Two of his videos for his "Freestyle sessions" mixtape were also featured on "WORLD STAR HIP HOP" this month as they embraced his talent and youth. DY plans to continue speaking to, inspiring and building up the spirit of his city through his music. There is no question that the world will be next to feel him. Inspired by Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Lupe, J. Cole and Drake, DY is always ignited. And for those who may ask "why DY?", Stay Tuned. He is blossoming into the answer. ----Jeannee Aenise
