About Tetsuo

2012 The band was formed in January by guitar wizard Scott Pickering and bearded Hullian Sam Robinson. After months of writing (and losing their original drummer to spontaneous combustion) they entered Rec And Play Studios in July to record material as a two-piece, with Sam performing both bass and drum duties. Several months later the pair enlisted local jazz musician Raoul “The Pig Slayer” Robinson to play bass for the band, with Sam moving to drums full-time. They performed their début gig shortly thereafter, supporting the (sadly) now-defunct math-rockers Great Deeds at their EP launch show. They got quite drunk afterwards. After an array of local gigs, the band released their début EP ”The Embiggening” in December, garnering warm reviews from local press, with Sloucher.org describing it as “...a safe haven for the ones missing the dirtier taste of grunge.” Opening track “Deaf” was later released as a single with an accompanying video in April 2013, gaining radio airplay as far away as Mexico. 2013 Much of 2013 was spent writing and gigging, sharing stages with some of the best acts on the local scene. In October the band returned to the studio to record their full-length début album - Another Place - with Sheffield's premier super-producer Chris Walker, hoping to encapsulate their newly-refined sound. 2014 Tetsuo began to expand their sound to include desert rock and post-rock material, which was well-received at venues like West Street Live and at Redhouse for their triumphant first Tramlines set. Though their gig schedule can hardly be described as relentless, the band still played many gigs and shared stages with a raft of great local talent 2015 Despite a couple of forced sabbaticals for weddings and other engagements, Tetsuo continued writing exciting new material, played to great crowds, and mingled with other Sheffield acts. Another Tramlines set helped cement the band as a (slowly) up-and-coming force to be reckoned with, and two gigs at The Washy in the winter were among the riffiest ever to see that little stage. 2016 Tetsuo record their second EP and stay busy on-stage in Sheffield - playing at The Washy for Tramlines, Corporation for Steel City Rocks II, and at West Street Live. 2017 In March Tetsuo plays alongside several great bands at The Audacious Art Experiment and then returns to their cave, only coming outside to play at WSL for Tramlines. Something is about to happen though. Implosion? But I thought you said- Sheffield three-piece. Desert rock riffs with a grunge aftertaste.
