About Awar
Awar was born to two short, white parents in 1981 in rural upstate New York, but from an early age he voiced his preference for a more urban lifestyle. There was no question that he would someday live in New York City, the only question was when.
His first love was Basketball. His father used to tell him that he had picked the wrong parents (too white and too short), however, much to their continued surprise, he grew into a tall (6'3") athletic young man. He comes from a musical family. His aunt is a professional musician, singer, songwriter and recording artist. His father plays the flute and his younger brother and sister play guitar.
As a young lad, Awar exhibited a talent for writing. At age 13 he discovered hip hop music and culture. Soon after that he began writing lyrics and rapping. By the time he was in high school he was honing his skills as a MC in front of local audiences.
After high school he moved to the Bronx to go to Fordham University. He immersed himself in the NY hip hop scene and after 2 years left school to devote more time to performing and recording. He released his first CD in January 2005.
